Maria L. Rubio, a founding shareholder of
Ratzan & Rubio, has about 20 years of experience representing and
counseling clients on professional malpractice, nursing home, unfair
insurance and bad faith, personal injury, maritime and aviation
accidents and product liability claims. Ms. Rubio is a summa cum
laude graduate of Biscayne College and received a master’s degree,
cum laude, from Florida International University. She received her
J.D., cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law.
Ms. Rubio has been named to the South Florida Legal Guide’s
Top Attorneys and to Florida Legal Elite as one of Florida’s Legal
Leaders. She is listed in Who’s Who among practicing
attorneys and has an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the legal
guide’s highest rating. A former board member of the The Florida
Justice Association (FJA), formerly the Academy of Florida Trial
Lawyers, she has served the FJA by chairing the CLE Committee,
co-chairing the Insurance Task Force and served as a FLAG Trustee.
The FJAhas acknowledged her legislative efforts on behalf of
consumers by awarding her the “Hogan’s Heroes” and “Shoe Leather”
awards. She has also received the FJA’s “Outstanding Membership
Recognition” and “Talon” awards. She is a member of the
Cuban-American Bar Association’s board of directors and is an active
member of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, the
American Association for Justice and other bar associations.
An active lecturer, Ms. Rubio has presented on numerous legal topics
for professional groups. Some of her most recent speaking
engagements focused on medical malpractice, nursing homes, laying
ground work for motion, abuse and neglect in assisted living- a look
at legal remedies, caps on non-economic damages in medical
malpractice cases, rainmaking secrets of the pros and under the
microscope: nursing home department staffing. She has been published
in Trial Magazine.
